Running Shoe Types

Running shoes are divided into types, depending on the foot type and the performance needed. Different foot types need different types of shoes, otherwise, injuries might occur. These injuries are not limited to the foot and legs but also back problem or back pain.

Different shoe uses also require different shoes. This is for lighter weight, more arch support or for more road grip. These must be taken into account when considering buying shoes for running,

Stability types, also called support types, are suitable for those with neutral feet. It is also ideal for mild to moderate overpronators. Stability shoes have straight or semi-curved shoe shape. They provide medial support, and can thus have some motion control.

Motion control shoes are the heaviest, most rigid and most durable running shoe type. They are shoes with the maximum amount of medial support, ideal for overpronators as it provides more stability and support for the inner foot.

Cushioned shoes typically have more advanced cushioning and stability and provide the most flexibility among the different running shoes. This shoe type is designed for supinators.

Lightweight shoes, or trainers, are designed for racing and speed work and generally has no medial support. They are ideal for runners with neutral feet.

Trail shoes, with its deep-lugged soles, are designed for rough footwork or rigorous terrain. Its features include aggressive traction, water resistance, and extra upper protection. Most trail shoes have lower profiles for added stability and are accompanied with toe bumpers for added protection. They are usually made of waterproof materials for bad weather conditions.
